This is a first for Crochet Do Dads - a year long crochet along! What a project this temperature blanket will be. I'm looking forward to always having a project on the go...
Welcome to My Temperature Blanket Crochet Along!
Whatever you call it, blanket or afghan - either way it will be a work of art. I can hardly wait to see the photos you submit throughout the year as your blanket progresses. I am always fascinated by your colour choices and the various temperature changes wherever you may be in the world. Here in Canada our temperatures go from extremely cold, to hot. Where I am located - in Niagara, Canada (wine country), I am fortunate not to have the extreme cold the prairie provinces are known for, but it does get cold here. Today, being New Year's Eve 2022, the temperature was 9 C, yesterday it was 12 C (60's in Fahrenheit). This is a little rare even for Niagara!

Temperature Blanket Pattern
Let's get started. The pattern is essentially as given above on a larger scale.
Ch 313.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end. Ch 1, turn (You can use any colour for this row, I chose to use the colour I thought January 1 would most closely represent temperature wise).
January 1 - Row 2: Sc in 1st 3 sc, *ch8, skip next 7 sc, sc in next 6 sc, repeat from *, until last 3 sc, sc in last 3 sc, ch 1, turn. When complete you should have 24 loops across the length of your row - representing the 24 hours in the day. We have done this, so you can change colour hour by hour rather than one temperature for the day. It will make your blanket more interesting and a variety of colours changing constantly. To make your temperature blanket even more interesting, and different than most, we have also assigned colours for rain, snow, freezing rain, thunderstorms and high winds, you will add these to each loop in the hours they apply as shown in the image.
January 2 - Row 3: Sc in first 3 sc, *ch 8, sc in next 6 sc, repeat from *, to last 3 sc, sc in last 3 sc, ch 1, turn.
January 3 - Row 4: Sc in first 3 sc, *ch 8, sc in next 6 sc, repeat from *, to last 3 sc, sc in last 3 sc, ch 1, turn.
January 4 - Row 5: Sc in first 3 sc, *ch3, sl st around all 3 ch 8 loops below, ch 3, sc in next 6 sc, repeat from * to last 3 sc, sc in last 3 sc, ch 1, turn.
January 5 - Row 6: Sc in first 3 sc, *ch 8, sc in next 6 sc, repeat from * to last 3 sts, sc in last 3 sc, ch 1, turn.
Repeat rows 3 through 6 for pattern.
Have fun, we will post our progress periodically, obviously we are not going to do a video every day - it would just be too much. But please do send your work in progress to us - we'd love to see it!
Oh, and I almost forgot. I created a spreadsheet for you to write down the temperature changes - if you're like me, there will be days you just can't crochet...
